India represents one of the largest motorcycle markets in the world, and they currently represent the best market for an electric motorcycle. That’s because by 2025 all-new motorcycle models of 150cc or less must be free from carbon immission and they will no longer be available for purchase with internal combustion engine

No doubt, this will encourage motorcycle manufacturers to create new innovative designs and help to expand the market for electric motorcycles.

One new Indian company called Devot motors founded in 2019, plans to bring a line of affordable innovative environmentally friendly motorcycles to their home country of India.

The company just unveiled its prototype electric motorcycle at the Auto Expo 2020. The bike has a very clean retro design, with gunmetal paint for the “tank” and side cover panels. The Devot bike boasts top speeds up to 62 mph (100 kph) and can go for up to 200 kilometers from a single charge.

The modular batteries will allow the rider to easily swap out batteries, should they need to do so during long commutes. The Devot electric motorcycle will come equipped with an on-board standard charging cable, and energy regeneration while braking. The batteries also have temperature control and overcharging protection to prevent any kind of overheating. The company is currently working on a quick charge system that will allow for a thirty-minute recharge.

To go along with the bikes retro design will be dual rear shock absorbers and inverted front forks. The Devot bike will feature a digital instrument panel that will show the speed, battery level, and gear. They have also equipped the bike with a keyless ignition located just underneath the instrument panel. What would normally house the gas tank has been utilized to fit the rider’s helmet as a nice storage area.

As is becoming standard, the bike will have LED headlights and LED taillights, and turn signals. For the brakes, the prototype has disc brakes for the front and the back.

The asking price for Devot’s first electric motorcycle to be around 1 to 1.2 lakh. 1 lakh equals roughly around $1,500 – $2,000.

I really like the design of this bike, keeping it simple, affordable and not overly flashy. After the successful introduction of this bike, I just hope they make an electric model with a bit more speed and Power.
