In addition to the Model Y, previously we have also seen several spy photos of the Tesla Model 3 electric sedan in India. As for the Model Y, it's based on the same platform as the Model 3, and globally Tesla offers the SUV in both 5- and 7-seater configurations. The Tesla Model Y shares a lot of its visual trains with the Model 3, like the overall front section and wide LED taillights. Upfront, we get a sculpted face with sweptback headlamps, no grille and a wide central airdam. The profile shows the silver alloy wheels, while at the rear it gets a sharp-looking boot lid and cladded rear bumper.

Globally, the Tesla Model Y is offered in two options Long Range AWD and Performance. Both models come with dual electric motors, one for each axle, offering an electric all-wheel drive (AWD) function. The former Long Range option offers a range of up to 505 km and can do a 0-97 kmph sprint in less than 4.8 seconds. The more powerful Performance variant does the same sprint in about 3.5 seconds but offers a reduced electric range of 480 km.
Right now, Tesla is lobbying with the Indian government for tax cuts on fully imported electric vehicles and is not likely to bring in the cars before the issue is resolved. However, the government has no plans to provide any additional tax redemptions, and rather says that Tesla should locally assemble vehicles in India, which is the norm followed by several mainstream luxury carmakers in the country. So, it seems like India will have to wait a little longer for Tesla cars to official reach our shores
